Antikythera Mechanism — Navy Blue

In 1900, sponge divers sheltering from a storm near the Greek island of Antikythera found a Roman-era shipwreck. Among the statues and pottery was a corroded lump of bronze about the size of a shoebox. No one knew what it was. Over a century of study later, it turns out to be the oldest known geared device ever discovered — built around 100 BCE, containing at least 30 precision bronze gears. It tracked the movements of the sun and moon, predicted eclipses, followed the cycles of the planets, and displayed the dates of the Olympic Games. The complexity it achieved would not be matched again for roughly a thousand years, when medieval clockmakers began building astronomical devices of comparable sophistication. It was a computer. It just ran on hand-cranked gears. And someone made it over two thousand years ago, then lost it at sea.
