Richard Feynman gave a BBC interview in 1981. The title of the broadcast was The Pleasure of Finding Things Out. It became one of the most celebrated conversations ever recorded about the scientific mind. He talked about learning to love uncertainty. About the difference between knowing the name of something and understanding it. About how his father — a uniform salesman who read him science like bedtime stories — taught him to see the world as a place of endless, honest questions. "I don't know what's the matter with people: they don't learn by understanding; they learn by some other way — by rote, or something. Their knowledge is so fragile!" Feynman's curiosity was not performative. It was the engine of everything he did. He played bongo drums, cracked safes, and painted nudes under the pseudonym Ofey. He also rebuilt quantum electrodynamics from scratch. The pleasure, for him, was the finding out — not the having found.
